After the last post, we held the premiere of "The Incredible Search for Jamie Klotz's Diary" at the Mueller Civic Center on September 21, about a week before my 25th birthday. The response was, dare I say, incredible.
The crowd of roughly 175 people laughed, gasped and was engaged in the story at all the right moments. To me, it was a dream come true. And if that weren't enough, they actually all hung around for the Q&A and asked some very good questions of myself and the cast. They were genuinely interested in how the movie was made and what was next.
What was next?
I announced that night that I'd be producing "Never Been to Graceland," a story about an Elvis fan - a story a bit more personal to me than Jamie Klotz... actually a lot more personal. But more on that later. I realized as the audience asked questions that my cast & crew would be extremely interested in doing another project kinda like Jamie Klotz, and so I started to think about what that might be.
I've started investing in equipment for whatever my next project is, but I've still got a long ways to go. Some days I'm more upbeat than others. A lot of it has to do with where I see myself and where I see my peers in the video production/filmmaking industry. I worry Jamie Klotz was a fluke. Anyone can make a fun little film in four days - I just proved it to myself... and it's a bit discouraging to see others churning out slicker products. But then I remember that I'm the only one who can tell the stories I want to tell. That's what makes what I do unique. And what I really would like is to show everyone what I can do with more resources, more time, better scheduling, better organization, better equipment.
We'll see. I'll try to keep this blog updated as things happen, better than I have been. Not that anyone really reads it, but I think maybe it's just more for myself to keep track. Which is all right.
